About The Show

This performance was an adaptation of Caryl Churchill's piece 'Hotel', performed at Middlesex University. 'Hotel' originally an Opera, presented one our harder challenges as a group, as we decided to transpose the musical layers for physical movement. We kept some of the original intention, asking Churchill's questions such as 'How do you fit thirteen characters in a hotel room?', which meant for a busy, interweaving and eye catching mixture of characters.

As the text within the piece is minimal and disjointed we found it difficult to use as a basis to devise physical work, a problem that required us to pull together as a team and explore the solutions within a short time frame. We finally decided to examine how society affects people's behavior and explore gesture and mannerisms to create an individual and chorus vision.

Our final production was extremely successful, gaining a first class grade, within our third and final year.
